Summer plan: Enter stage right

After a year i'm glad to put behind me, it's back to SBG!

Like most other summers I plan to do a lot, and get around to about 40-60% of it.
But this time my objectives are far more realistic......I hope.

So I'm thinking of painting some orcs warriors, morannon orc warriors, maybe a couple of heroes, do some basing, fight through a another set of battles and maybe fixing a bunch of models, and perhaps something else.

Anyways, one of those things is a tournament, which I'm currently planning. I've got five companies all from various regions. The plan is for each side to fight each other once, with warriors and heroes being upgraded in the process, and maybe they'll be some special wargear/ items/ rules for heroes and other members to use, with it ending in one big fight between all five companies!

At some point I'll put up the special rules and how the winner will be decided.

Until then

Preparing the defences

Having looked through the scenarios in the Siege of Gondor book, four require 48'' worth of stone wall sections. Now I only have 24'' at best, with the gate section and two towers.

This meant assembling three 6'' section and a tower, to make the bare minimum 47'':

Lots of Card!
The old and new
The finished ensemble

The size of the wall section is 16cm x 9.5cm x 6 cm , with the front barrier rising 12cm above the ground

Secondly a hasty siege tower was built, not much in comparison to the first one:

Wall-side view
The back slopes downward, cursed Orc engineering!

With that sorted, Sauron can finally unleash his hordes on Gondor...

The fort

Ok, a little off topic here but, being bored and creative over the Christmas holidays made me make a mini fort:

Click to enlarge for various measurements
There's the plan, I tried not to be too extravagant and not too simple in the design. Then to decide the various lengths/heights of buildings, which took a re-scaling.

I wish I had took a picture during the process, since this was very enjoyable.

There's still the tower to finish, however the gates made surpassed the image I had of them.

Anyway the entire fort composes of 1mm card, cut using a Stanley knife.

The gate pivots are cocktail sticks which I pierced through top and bottom, then trimmed.
Paper strips are wrapped around these sticks and glued only to the individual gate cards.

The stairs are made of polystyrene blocks.

More on this in the future.

2012 Face off teams

You might be wondering what i mean by 'face off'.
What I do mean is that two teams battle each other, then the winner progresses to the next round, who then faces another team that won in the previous round and so on...
like:

Anyway the important part, the teams consist of 150pts of models. The leader must not be a generic hero and the other models consist of their guard. I've tried to keep them within the new rules, but since I don't have them, there is a model limit of 13(including hero). Here they be:

Rohan
Theodred (shield)
4x Royal guard (throwing spears)
3x warriors (shields,throwing spears)

Harad
Suladan (horse)
6x Serpent guard

Gondor
Faramir (heavy armour)
6x Guard of the fountain court (shields)

Mordor
Shagrat (shield)
11x Morannon orcs (shields,2x spears)

Elves
Haldir (bow,armour)
7x Elves (heavy armour,blades)

Moria
Durburz
8x Prowlers (two-handed axes)
7x Goblins (3x shields,3x spears)

Dwarves
Dwarf king
8x Warriors (shields)

Easterlings
Amdur
6x Easterlings (1x spear)

The 'timetable' over the coming games:

Elves Vs Moria

Mordor Vs Easterlings

Dwarves Vs Gondor

Rohan Vs The Serpent Horde

and then onwards..

Update

Sooner than expected.
I Managed to acquire some batteries for some photos.

So Here are the pictures of the hills so far.

I decided to only have four layers of Polystyrene rather that the original six. This makes for easier storage and more gradual slopes on the hills.

Hill with four layers.

Hill with six Layers.

Also The plans for the board. Each square represents 4" meaning 48"x48" or 4'x4' in total gaming area.

And by 'Fort' I mean with ruined walls and a gate on top of the hill. This does make the board too themed in a way, so the plan is to make the wall sections and gate removable so it looks like an ordinary hill =) when the they're not there.

I've started on the low(ish) hill.

With these two layers, one will be 12" in diameter and the second 6". The idea is to have a gradual assent to the 'summit'

The next stages for the board are sculpting the hills into a 'hill'-like shape, gluing it down, and sanding the surface.

And finally
The Painted Warriors of Minas Tirith.

Archers

Swordsmen

Spearmen

Still many more models in the backlog to paint, Rangers of Gondor, Theodred, Morannon orcs, and some Guard of the fountain Court.

Board work

An update on the current developments.

Firstly I decided to plan out the features of the board:

  • A crossroads, with statue
  • One has a 'normal' hill
  • A low hill on one

I've started on the hills, below is a picture of a planned hill, in sheet form ready to be cut.

The idea was to have two sheets of polystyrene to a level of the hill. Comparing this with a model. So I decided to have three levels for the normal hill, and four for the other.

Anyway I prepared for six levels for both so I can make it smaller If I wanted. Both hills (with six levels) are currently cut out and are ready to be modelled.

On a smaller note I have started painting some Warriors of Minas Tirith, but aren't finished yet. So once I get some batteries for my camera, You will see them finished and the hills being modelled

Small break

After helping a friend today, constructing a wardrobe by flat pack. Each box had an immense amount of polystyrene and wood(surprisingly) , and it seemed to stupid to let all of it go to waste.

They let me have some polystrene. Since I already have 4 2'x2' boards with nothing on them, I decided to start finishing (if that sounds right?) them. So over the next weeks, or months, I'm going to make them into Realm of battle boards.

Just so you know, I originally got the plywood boards a year or so ago. My dad was re-doing the kitchen, he had some plasterboard left over. A local landscape gardener, decided to swap it for 4' by 4' of 7 thick plywood, at my dads expense!

By anyway, the tournament will continue. And for the next 3 rounds (by the dice)"To the death" scenario will be played instead of "Domination". So a huge relief for the Numenor forces.
