Dwarf - Goblin Campaign Epilogue Part I

It's been a while of dealing while work, exams and slowly assembling this. I hope you enjoy!

A pale light strayed across the green hills arrayed in front of the fort. Dusk had begun. A man arranged in shining armour observed the surrounding lands. He then turned and walked down towards an encampment, two lordly looking men strolled over to meet him.
"My lord, everything is in order." Said the first of the two
"Our scouts report that neither side has called a retreat from the region." Added the second man.
"So it would seem, that they have joined forces to face us?" The man in shining armour asked.
"No Lord Snowden, we think that after the several encounters they had with each other, in addition to the bitter feud that already exists between these people, that joining together would not be in their interests." The first man replied. Lord Snowden seemed uneasy, If neither side was retreating then this meant that they had some advantage he didn't know of.
"Assemble the men then." Ordered Lord Snowden duly, "We march through the plains and southwards to the goblin camp." The first man noted this and concurred so the Lord continued, "Captain Mather will take his men north-west, once the goblin lines have been broken, engage the Dwarf forces and once the goblins are routed we shall join them on the dwarves North-western flank and surround them." The three of them agreed upon this, the goblins were the easier of the two forces to break, why should they engage a force that could hold their ground and allow the goblins a chance to attack their exposed rear.
But as chances were the goblins and dwarves had agreed something. The rebels reasoned that it was better to attack them now, before they had had time to assemble a much more unassailable position, one that could easily go badly for the rebels.

So the rebel forces marched out westwards at dusk. They were lead on the northern flank by Captain Mather, and the southern flank by the Lord Snowden. The plains extended in front of them for a mile; the ground rose gently on the southern edge, and was roughly level in the northern direction towards the original dwarf garrison. The army turned southwards, and when it had almost reached the southern slope a battle cry came from the northern direction.

A single small figure came in view making a very big fuss.
It was a dwarf.
The enemy had arrived.
A man ran down towards Captain Mather's eastern section of the line.
"Captain! His lordship..." He took a moment to regain his breath. "Lord Snowden orders you to turn your companies northwards to guard his flank while he deals with the goblin force."
Mather registered this, sent the runner on his way, and quickly order his unit to turn, also sending orders to his other captain, things had gone a little awry.

At this moment both the goblins and dwarves came into view. The companies lead by Mather marched north down the slope towards the oncoming dwarves, and at the top the hill the goblins attacked Lord Snowden.

Setup:

The goblins face off the Snowden's companies
And the dwarves skirmish with the Mather's companies
Arrows and spears fly on either side taking down one on each side.
The goblins charge and shout at the men advancing towards them.
Although the sides haven't closed in yet the killing is
effectively reducing the dwarf numbers.
Two more dwarves are taken by the arrows!
Goblins and men clash against each other, and results in the troll
squishes the nearest man beneath his club!
All the goblins and men in the south end up fighting each other again.
More skirmishing in the North
But blood is spilled in tides upon the slopes,
three rebels falling to the five goblins.
So the goblins fall back up the hill, while Durburz
boldly continues fighting with his flank exposed.
Meanwhile the rebel archers have been making their way
up the eastern side of the hill.
Northwards, the dwarves catch the rebel skirmishers and
cut a couple down to only one loss of their own.
The dwarf archers volley into the mass of rebels charging towards
them, two leave rebel blood dripping on the ground.
Greszif and his goblins are surrounded on the hill top.
A couple of goblins detain the lord Snowden while Durburz
and his guard fight a losing battle
With kills coming on either side, the clansmen company
are looking worse for wear.
The dwarves charge into the rebels trying to back off.
And they find more men attacking than they were expecting.
Hatain smashes up two rebels, Mather takes a nasty but not fatal cut
on the arm, two other rebels succumb to the dwarves too.
Mather tries to reorganise his men, but the dwarves attack swiftly again.
Southwards the goblins have now been engulfed.
And Durburz is running out of time, and goblins to engage the rebels.
The killing has taken it's toll on his the goblin army and some
start to think of retreat.
The troll had had enough of the shiny men, so grabs the nearest captain
and one of his men to beat the lights behind their eyes.
Greszif also falls under the weight of blades along with three other goblins.
The dwarves fare better cutting down three rebels.
So they attack aggressively again.
And another three rebels fall under the dwarven axes! Mather can
barely take the sight of his men falling like wheat in the wind...
With the Rebels' northern flank wavering and the goblins making their very last stand in the south, the battle is coming to a conclusion.

Previously during the night at the fort:

Both Durburz and Greszif were restless. The dwarves had sent a messenger back, and had told them that they would fight, for a battle at most, with the goblins and then settle their squabbles afterwards.
This troubled the goblins, as the dwarves could easily double cross them. So they had sent a few scouts north-west. These scouts had been discovered by the rebels and the general had sent a small company of brave men to tarry them; in hope of finishing them off and the Other goblins would turn around retreat before the battle had even begun.
This would leave the dwarves remaining, against the far more numerous rebel army, which could only go one way.
However Durburz had then ordered the scouts to make their way southwards, detaining the rebels in the hope of routing them before the actual battle.
This was when the dwarves showed up and scuppered the rebels' plans.

Until then

Dwarf - Goblin Campaign Turn 10 end

So Orin casts the Goblin attackers from the dwarf garrison. Gimli and Hatain managed to breach the goblin lines at the Goblin garrison.

And with this the dwarves have emerged victorious. They control both garrisons, although they have lost their leader. Durburz has been forced back to the fort with Greszif and Blayser was lost at their Garrison.

Thus the Dwarves are the victors!

The dwarves at the southern garrison held a small feast in honour of Gimli, he had been seriously wounded and was being taken by his guard to the nearest friendly settlement, and then Erebor to inform the King under the Mountain of the news.

The celebrations went long into the night, but Orin had gone to bed before then proud of his own heroics and his warriors'. If he hadn't then the scout, resting outside his tent, would have delayed his news until morning.
"There is some grave news my lord." He told.
"Well, speak freely, this is a dwarven realm after all!" Orin boasted, but the scout looked at the captain as if this wasn't the case. "What news then?"
"The local rebels, they have mustered."
"How many?"
"Many more than both dwarf companies could deal with." And his face went pale. Orin paused and gave the scout a very stern look.
"I don't think you heard me. How many?" Orin insisted.
"Five companies. Three are peasants, two are heavily armoured. They will reach the fort within three days." Orin's face then also turned pale.
"Well then. Tell the dwarves we move out before midday tomorrow, and send word to Hatain that we move north to bolster their forces." Orin moved to enter his tent, but the scout blocked him.
"There is one more thing." He held out a scrap of badly folded parchment, with a poor scrawl on it and goblin markings...

Battles for the Garrisons Part II

Battles for the Garrisons Part II

Although Hatain has arrived to support Gimli's rash attack on the goblins, his presence is merely an annoyance to the goblins, as his company have not engaged them yet.

Orin has lead his troops to keep the line in defence of the Garrison's. Greszif's forces have been severely depleted. But Durburz has arrived hopefully to keep the goblins in check and even overshadow Orin's earlier heroics...

At the Dwarf garrison, Durburz' troop near the barrier.
Orin cuts through one, a prowler is shot in the face and one goblin
pierces a dwarf in the thigh as he clambers over the wall.
Durburz calls the goblins to stand fast, and orders another assault.
Four more goblins succumb to dwarf might, Orin claiming another two.
Orin then faces off the goblin king, as the attack persists.
Only one prowler is killed this time.
Back at the the goblin garrison, Hatain halts
Blayser and the trolls progress.
The other two dwarves block off Blayser's retreat and Hatain
brings his hefty axe down upon him, cleaving him in two.
The troll is swiftly surrounded afterwards.
Meanwhile a contingent of dwarves approaches the wall.
But is pushed back from the initial melee.
The troll survive the dwarf onslaught.
At the same time Durburz continues his own attack, again having
to call his minions to stand their ground.
But three more goblins yield to the dwarves, Orin getting another.
Durburz notices his limited number of followers,
but still bellows his stand fast again and attacks.
And more attacking.
The dwarven siege goes bitterly, as the troll gives his spear a twirl,
managing to slice through Gimli's mail hauberk.
But the Dwarf contingent manages to get members over the wall!
The troll forces the dwarves back again!
Now the dwarves gain a foothold inside the garrison!
The troll reaches the pyre, he simply has to light it
and the garrison is secured!
Two goblins can't take the pressure, taking flight!
Meaning the dwarves have control behind the barrier!
Unknown to the troll two dwarves creep up behind, and hack
their axes deep; to bring the troll to it's knees!
The pyre will not be lit today!
Orin's line falters as Durburz sneaks around the side.
But they bring down the goblin that tarried them.
Still all seems secure...
Yet two of the defenders are caught unawares by their security!
The defenses are holding, barely...
Orin dispatches the nearby goblins, and Durburz does
the same from the dwarves he faces too.
Durburz rallies his final supporter, so it all
comes down to a single combat...
But the goblin king has shouted enough,
and the forces take to the wind!!!

Thus both garrisons are secured by the Dwarves!

Blayser's company lost: Blayser, the troll and four goblins. Blayser did not recover from his wounds and one other goblin was killed. Company disbanded.

All of Gimli's company was lost: Gimli didn't recover from his wounds, one of his guards was also killed. Company disbanded.

Hatain lost none of his company.

Greszif's company lost 11 goblins, the troll and Greszif. Seven of the goblin warriors recovered along with their captain. The troll was killed.

Durburz' company lost all eight prowlers, of whom two recovered, three nursed their injuries and three were killed.

Orin's Company lost nine dwarves. Four recovered immediately, the same amount will in time, and one was killed.

Durburz dropped one of his warriors on the floor in a fit of exhaustion. He had lost too many of his minions, and the dwarf resistance was strong. Several more prowlers and warriors ran to meet him; they were concealed in the shrubbery half a mile from the dwarf garrison. As the day drew on more goblins congregated to this point. By midday Durburz ordered  the troop to move out to the fort, their last resting place before their food ran out. Sadly, even for a goblin king, he had to leave some goblins behind, they would be too much of a burden on him.

When they reached the fort the gates were closed. This meant Blayser hadn't returned, he could be at the weapon stash or the food stocks, they would find out soon enough.
By the time evening came around, and most of the remaining food in the fort had been scavenged, the last scouting party Durburz would send out had returned.
"Durburz! There is something you will want to see!" The scout told.
Durburz had hoped to move out back to the misty mountains within the next two days after raiding another food stock, to give provisions for their journey.
"What could it possibly be? The dwarves will find out that we have no garrison soon enough and come for us!" He shouted back.
"The dwarves will be the least of our worries." The scout responded.

He lead the king to a ridge which overlooked the southern valley. A handful of black dots could be seen travelling across the plain north-eastwards.
"So?" The king replied. "You brought me here to see a few local rebels in the wild!"
"They have come from your garrison, and travel towards the mountain."
This took a moment to settle in, he looked to see the pyre was not alight so the dwarves had won the garrison.
Goblins had no custom concerning their dead, so this was a dwarf band.
Either Gimli or the other dwarf captain had been killed or injured, and the company was too small to be a regular dwarf company, so it must be Gimli's guard. If Gimli was killed or injured this meant the field was still contestable!
But the scout saw him realise this.
"There is one more thing you may not have thought about..." The scout said meekly, and the goblin king was shown the plains of the land about the local town. Which was more bad news....

Until then
