Attack on Cair Andros

Corgoth stood atop one of the barriers of the outer defences.
They could hold the Gondorians and possibly the Rohirrim, if they were lucky. The peasants would have to pull some slack though. He reached for his whip.
"The peasants are here.....sir" Came from his corporal who slid away.
"Good!" Corgoth answered."Send them in maggot!"
Just his luck. He could force a victory, or at least he hoped.

Lieutenant Nethar and The Riders of Rohan Vs Lieutenant Corgoth

Deployment:

..........
The corporal's arrow finds it's mark at Warsh's warg, who topples from
the dead warg, his head smacking the wall rendering him unconscious
The riders of Rohan throw their spears, to little effect
The riders engage either side of the wall
The riders throw again, splicing a peasant and an orc
The captain carves up a peasant and orc
Corgoth wins the heroic move roll off
Things are very bleak for the orcs here
The riders engage the wall section, and the captain is surrounded
Nethar survives one orc's attempt to kill him,
a foothold is gained at the wall, one rider falls to a peasant
The riders butcher a peasant, while the captain only receives a single wound
Surrounding over here
This gateway is still held by orcs
The bowman proving himself, and two peasants are downed
Two riders downed in similar fashion,
and the wall section is almost completely overrun
The Gondorians ensnaring the orcs
The other gateway is overrun,
but orcs are still present so the game continues
Nethar claims one, a warrior another
A peasant manages to wound the captain, which is saved by fate.
Another rider wounded, and Corgoth is scarred to death by the riders
The Gondorians round up the remaining orcs.
Who are still just within the settlement boundaries
The captain claims one, another rider also claims one,
the other spears the orc corporal in the throat,
The final orc hero is surrounded
And finished
Giving the Gondorians the victory and 600R! (400R Major victory+200R taking settlement) Corgoth retreats north-east of Cair Andros.

Inside Cair Andros three of the peasants were found dead, and one will miss the next turn along with one rider of Rohan, the other riders and peasants recovered from their wounds. One of the swordsmen was promoted to a citadel guard, while one bowman failed his promotion and Cpl D gains an extra wound.

North-east of Cair Andros, Corgoth makes a full recovery(+1fate), two warriors will miss the next turn, all others make full recoveries. Except Cpl K and one warrior who were found prone after the battle. Warsh was promoted to corporal in his absence (+1fate).

Nethar gathered the men, and they drank heartily into the morning.

Corgoth had retreated northwards, so they cold turn their attentions towards Anersk, who was either advancing on Cair andros or North Druadan.
"What news of Anersk?" Asked Nethar.
"None, but he must be removed from this side of the river, or destroyed completely." the captain answered.
It was a sad truth, Anersk's company was becoming powerful, too powerful for Nethar to handle.
"Even if you pursued them we would be left vulnerable." Nethar said. "Luthyre is also exposed to both Keresk and Corgoth if he attacks north Ithilien. We could aid him, but Cair Andros would be left, again, exposed."
"Yet we cannot leave Anersk to claim the Northern settlements!" Argued the captain. Then Nethar looked at the man of Rohan with a smile. "No! We cannot!" Shouted the captain. "The steward would be furious! Not to mention the trouble we would put the people of Gondor through!"
"It is our best option" Nethar said and maybe it was...

Corgoth hated running, even more so from a battle. Despite the fact that orcs had little pride, they boasted it with great voices.

"Warsh!" He called.
"Sir"
"How much of the supplies did you pack!"
"Enough"
"Are you sure scum! I'll have your right-arm if you fail me!" Boomed Corgoth, clearly angry at the defeat.
"Anersk still hasn't responded to your last message" stated Warsh.
"Obviously as the Gondorians control all the ways over the river!" Then a thought struck Corgoth. "What about Keresk?"
"Glad you asked" he smiled and handed him the letter after bustling it out of his carry-bag.

Gondor in flames turn 13

Previously the siege of Minas Tirith was broken, with the goblin captain and Anersk being cast out
Vashner was defeated at Osgiliath by Aerun, Dengond and Bestir.
Mainz drew with Rathin at Gateway bridge.

The Mordorians gain priority and gather 900R, meanwhile the Gondorians gather a slightly greater 1100R.

The dark lord calls up three recruits, the first an orc tracker on warg (Warsh) goes to Corgoth at Cair Andros, the second a Haradrim with spear to Keresk at north Ithilien, the third a Mordor Uruk-hai (Eathrug) to Morge at Cirth Ungol.

In Minas Tirith The steward orders the services of one peasant at Osgiliath.
Also he sends for two recruits for Dengond, to which a knight of Minas Tirith and of Dol Amroth (Caorn) rally to his company.

In the south Jurasin manages one hex before coming across a rogue warband which retreats before they encounter each other.
Vashner manages three hexes stopping outside Pelargir.
The goblins attack Io to prevent him from returning to Pelargir.
Anersk Manages two hexes north.

Haldran manages a single hex before encountering 50pts of rogue Gondorians.
Oira tries to aid Io by a different route but only manages a single hex.
Luthyre manages two hexes before encountering 100pts of rogue Gondorians.
Mainz counter attacks north Harnen.
Nethar and the riders of Rohan attack Cair Andros.

One battle, two sieges, and two rogue attacks.

The goblins are likely to win their confrontation with Io and could pierce deep in Gondor territory.
Cair Andros could be taken or withstand the assault, given the numbers on each side.
North Harnen could be claimed if Mainz doesn't return in time.
Luthyre faces a hard challenge against a number of rogues, where he is the only asset of his force, for now at least.

Gondor in Flames turn 12 end

The past three battles concluded with Mainz drawing with Rathin
Haldran and Oira forcing a victory over the Goblin captain and Anersk
Dengond, Aerun and captain Bestir reclaiming Osgiliath

Lieutenant Jurasin is approaching the last neutral settlement.
The riders of Rohan and Lieutenant Nethar are assembled outside Cair Andros, so Corgoth will have a hard time defending it against them.
Lieutenant Io is within attacking range of the goblins, although they could overpower him.
Lieutenants Luthyre and Keresk have both remained idle for some time now.
News of the rogue captain, is that he is two hexes south of Minas Tirith. Still un-acquired by either side.

Rathin will be charged double for their supplies this turn, Mainz has gained 14R's worth of supplies so will be deduced from the sum this turn.

Good Evil
Capital 100 200
Settlements 1000 800
Battles 1100 100
Other -20 -50
Supplies -99 -107
Expenses -1600 -1600
Total 481 -657

Giving grand totals of 5604R for the Gondorians and 1052R for the Mordorians

The Gondorians still have a large sum of resources available to dispose, but their companies aren't very well placed or supported well enough.
On the other Hand the Mordorians don't have a good supply of resources so reinforcements will be few and far between.

Aerun and Dengond sat at their large table with four corporals and captain Bestir. Things were looking up for now at least.
"Luthyre has asked for one of the companies to return to Minas Morgul after he departs." Gerthil stated.
"Mainz is coming north also, so we will have to be wary of Rathin too" pointed One-arm.
"What news of the rogue captain, and does the steward want to pursue him?" asked Dengond.
"No news, only that Io soon could be swamped by orcs, from the goblins and Vashner. Besides he has to defend Fief pass and Pelargir, with no battle experienced members" said Aerun. "We can't let the Dark lord split our companies apart! He is stretching our forces and attacking in number, Io won't hold the goblins for long unless Oira moves from Minas Tirith."
"So we must both depart Osgiliath leaving it exposed to save Pelargir, Fief pass, and Minas Morgul." Dengond stated with heavy words.
"I think I have an idea" Huos said quietly. "It might give us some advantage, but enough maybe to force them into their own lands."

The goblin captain hurried his goblins away from the Gondorian walls. A bitter defeat, the Gondorians had forced another victory, in hindsight they needed at least another company to break further onto the walls. Haldran's distraction had prevented Dwarves from backing away. and a cursed archer that took down too many goblins.

"Sir, some scum approach" one of his scouts reported.
"WE SHALL DESTROY THEM!!" the captain roared.
The goblins cheered, the troll would fight this time, whoever attacked them now would be defeated.
His third victory approached, the dark lord would have to give him more credit.

Deep in Ithilien, Keresk raised his bow, and fired. The arrow smacked the target one hundred yards away. Things were all quiet, too quiet.
Messages came in weekly, bringing little hope;
Nethar and the riders of Rohan would attack Cair Andros, with Corgoth in their way.
The Siege of Minas Tirith was broken.
Mainz and Rathin continued to skirmish in the south, more to Mainz' favour.
He had received a special message though about Luthyre, he was on the move, some recruits would be needed. He had a fierce reputation, mostly in combat yet the dark lord spoke that he would strike soon, to ensure his title of second in command under Mainz."Lieutenant" came from behind, it was Flaneen."Luthyre has left Minas Morgul."
"Is that all scum?" Keresk tried to keep his position secure against his men, all of whom had similar standings. Rebellion was his fear.
"No, news of the rogue captain, who is still west of Osgiliath, but north of Pelargir."Still the same then." Keresk grunted. The corporal left, leaving the Lieutenant to ponder, even though orc weren't known for it.

The treasure of Gateway Bridge

Mainz paced back and forth by the camp-fire, the scout should have been back by now.
Until finally he showed.
"And what grants your lateness?" Mainz enquired.
"Lack of food sir" he replied.
"Wouldn't that make you come back quicker?"
"The good news sir." Still Mainz had a frown which few men could withstand."The Harardrim are also out of supplies." This softened Mainz slightly.
"We are still out of food ourselves!" Mainz shouted. "Asten, what food can we get in the surrounding area?"
"Not much, and there is no doubt Rathin will be searching for some too." Asten informed.
"Rathin is not in command, he was wounded in our taking of north Harnen." Said the scout.
"So we must gather sufficient supplies and take the bridge." Grimaced Mainz, then looked angrily at his men. "Well armour up! We attack them, food or no food!" To which they hurried around the fire gathering their equipment and weapons. Mainz had turned angry recently, they hoped it was only because of the minimal food...

General Mainz Vs Lieutenant Rathin (Treasure hunt)

Players must gather treasure counters and deploy them at the bridge. Once all have been collected, the game ends on a 1-2 on a D6. players may not steal deployed counters, but can steal un-deployed counters. Each deployed counter gains the deploy-er +1exp.

Deployment:

...........
Sanas moves to the rocks
while the ranger picks up two treasure counters
The Haradrim uncover four counters, two were deposited at the bridge
One finds a warg, the other two find one each
Failing to kill the warg it disappears
More moving
Sanas finds one treasure counter and continues to the next counter
Asten also finds one treasure counter and moves towards the hill
The ranger deposits his treasure counters
Both

Sanas finds a warg
This man gets his second treasure counter
And the first for this one
Both sides engage
Sanas couldn't wound the beast, yet it disappears
Mainz bashes his shield against the corporal
who topples back unconscious
Asten picking up his second and hastening back to the bridge
The Haradrim engaging Mainz and co.
This time Thuralion does the bashing
Almost all the treasure has been collected
Mainz moves over the bridge to intercept the Haradrim bearers
before they deposit their counters
Getting his third
Mainz and co. engaging to detain and evil victory
Sanas deploys his first, tie-ing the score
One Haradrim pierces Mainz' armour,
however the blow misses and flesh
And the game ends!
Giving a draw and both sides gain 100R. Mainz retreats east of the bridge, and Rathin north although he fails his scouting roll so remains at Gateway bridge.

Each plunder package deployed grants the deploy-er 1exp. and inside each package are:
  1. Nothing
  2. Food
  3. Food
  4. 100R of weapons/armour
  5. Roll on the recruitment table
  6. Roll on specials table (below)
Roll on 2D6
  • Ring of power(+1will/might points to bearer) (4/5)
  • Hardened steel sword/spear/t-h-axe (+1 to wound) (6/8)
  • Mithril armour (replace armour, +3 defence) (2/12)
  • Staff of awakening (one free immobilise(+3) per battle) (3/11)
  • Orb of fate (free priority once per battle) (9/10)

In the Gondorian camp both other members recover, also Mainz gains +1wounds. In the packages they find plenty of food sufficient for two turns.

In the Haradrim camp Rathin recovers along with both corporals, but one gains an old battle wound and +1wounds too. In the packages they find 100R of weapons and armour(5x shields and a suit of heavy armour).

Mainz was less bitter after the battle, although he still called it a small melee. They had retreated east, and they were wary of the defencelessness of north Harnen.
"Sir?" It was Asten back from checking the perimeter. "The Haradrim are still at the bridge."
"But we saw them retreat just as we did." Then Mainz thought for a moment."They couldn't get through the forest?"
"Yes, also they seem to have acquired some better armour, but by the looks of things they still haven't got any food."

"Curses! Our arrows will be next to useless." Mainz sunk his head, first they had failed to take the bridge, and now his enemies were growing stronger. "at least we have plenty of food" He said grimly "Ready the men, we need to move fast."

Rathin awoke resting against the bridge wall, he then raised himself to find his corporals washing in the river.
"What is this!" He ordered. they looked at each other.
"We dare not disobey the dark lord so we poisoned your soup." Replied one.
"And what of Mainz?" Rathin asked.
"We could not defeat him in combat, so we ran. He didn't pursue us, and it was for the better, we almost got lost in southern Ithilien."
"Looks like you two earned yourselves two pints!" Rathin roared, "I hoped you would come to your senses, I had to check you both weren't spies." The corporals smiled briefly, It was a little far to go to check they were legitimate. Then they said.
"We have no food or ale for that matter, we checked in the packages by the bridge. We only found five shields and a suit of armour, which we left for you sir."
"To think I was pleased with the two of you!" Rathin had an evil look upon his face, Mainz would return and stronger than before. "Prepare the men!" He ordered "we shall either march or fight!"

Until then
