Face-off 2013 Final Fiefdoms Vs Isengard Raiders

And the Final

The Isengard raiders have had a challenging two battles before this one, the Easterlings nearly escaped their grip, however they managed to remove them completely from the field, for a score of 18-4.
They then faced Moria in a battle to the death, which they scraped through from a close set of fights and courage tests, giving them a minor victory 15-9.

The Gondorians in comparison have had two easy battles, Cirith Ungol held the upper hand in the first battle for one or two turns, before Duinhur lead by example, killing a total of six warriors, breaking the orcs and watching them flee the field for a major victory of 15-4.
The second battle was half as difficult once Duinhur had killed the elf captain, and two Gondorians had infiltrated their lines, a comfortable 20-4 victory.

Fiefdoms Vs Isengard Raiders(Clash of Piquets)

Deployment:
Duinhur and Lurtz are set at opposite corners

All warriors arrive except three knights and uruks
Lurtz moves his uruks up the field, the small group of clansmen and
knights try to evade them.
Two knights haven't arrived yet, Duinhur urges his warriors to kill the
two uruks quickly so they can defend against the ones coming.
One of the uruks falls
Duinhur organises his men as Lurtz and co. fire arrow after
arrow at them, thankfully to little effect
Duinhur cleans up the final uruk behind their lines
The final knight enters the field, an uruk takes a tumble for the worse,
three uruks jump over the hedge only to be set upon by Gondorians
An uruk is cloven at a clansman's blade
Lurtz orders a full attack behind the hedge
Duinhur dodges the uruk-hai's attacks, piercing his spear and sword
into both uruks, which reducing the Uruk-hai below 50%
Giving the Fiefdoms a victory!(15-4)

Fiefdoms = 10pts(winning scenario) + 5pts(breaking enemy) = 15

Isengard raiders = 4pts(losing scenario) = 4

Well the Uruk-hai have reason to be mad. Not a single Gondorian fell there, moreover an uruk was killed by falling over, meaning Lurtz didn't get much of a shine in this battle.
The Isengard raiders didn't use their strength advantage and were sucked into unworkable fights, even their shooting was disorganised.

The Gondorians put on a good show, surrounding and killing stray uruk-hai, shielding to prevent them gaining ground while Duinhur killed the remaining on the other side.

Now the kill chart, displayed like: [ NAME = Kills(Weight of kills) ]
Weight of kills contributes to place, when two heroes have same number of kills:

Duinhur = 12(14)
Troll = 11(17)
Lurtz = 7(9)
Goblin Captain = 5(5)
Elven Captain = 4(6)
Gorbag = 1(1)

Duinhur scrapes the most kills, one more than the troll, where he would've lost to weight of kills with one less.

Also the team kills:
The Fiefdoms       = 22
Moria                     = 20
Isengard Raiders = 16
Rivendell               = 10
Theoden's Host    = 4
Cirith Ungol           = 4
Erebor                   = 2
The Easterlings    = 1

Duinhur also takes the Man of the Tournament award as his kills contributed more towards the victory conditions of each battle, for example killing the orc banner bearer and the elven captain.

The disappointments have been Theoden's host who held the 3rd placers to a draw, and Erebor who should have been able to surround and defeat the elves, with superior numbers and armour.

I hope you enjoyed the past few battles more when I get back in a couple of months, where I shall be following the fellowship through Moria?

Until then

Face-off 2013 3rd place Moria Vs Rivendell

Last time time these two met was in the 1st round of last year's face-off and it didn't go well for the elves. This time however, the elves simply have to evade through the goblin lines and vice versa for the goblins. Both sides have a similar number of models in their force. The elves have the advantage of warrior superiority, and a larger move rate. The goblins don't have much using the troll, as the elf captain could face it off in a fair fight, but they do have the goblin captain who is superior to the average elf.

Moria Vs Rivendell (Reconnoitre)

Deployment:

Two elves flank the goblin contingent while they concentrate their
attack through the centre
The troll is faced by a picket of elven spears and their captain
Swinging madly a the nearby spikes and catching the elves off-guard
Killing one and wounding the captain
The captain tries to deal with the troll himself
while the other elves hold the other goblins
And the goblin archers shoot arrows at the escaping elf
The elves completely fail in their combats, the captain and two others
succumb to the goblin blades and the troll's hammer.
The elves are Broken!
The goblin captain and troll try to escape the field before the elves are
reduced to 25%, while their minions hold the elves
One elf flees, much to the disgrace of the Noldor
Beginning of the next turn another elf flees, reducing them to 25% !
Meaning it's a draw and the scores will be taken into account:

Moria = 7pts(drawing scenario) + 5pts(breaking enemy) +3pts(killing leader) = 15

Rivendell = 7pts(drawing scenario) = 7

A very close draw, but it's clear that the goblins had the upper hand, gained after the 3rd turn when three elves, including the elf captain, were felled. If the flanking elves had held his ground, then a major victory could have been achieved.
The troll gained his 9th,10th and 11th kills, which puts him first in the most kills ranking. Closely followed by Duinhur with 9 and Lurtz with 7, but the winner of the final shall determine the victor upon that front.

The next battle is between The Fiefdoms and Isengard Raiders in Clash of Piquets.

Face-off 2013 semi-finals Fiefdoms Vs Rivendell

Now it's time for these two to battle.

The Gondorians have the numerical advantage, and have similar armour to the elves. Duinhur is slightly disadvantaged again the Elven captain in fighting skill, armour and courage. The elves however despite their fighting skills will have to infiltrate their lines, which is difficult with much fewer numbers.

Fiefdoms Vs Rivendell  (Reconnoitre)

Deployment:

The elves split, like the Gondorians do
The elf archers group, while the other two groups try to hold their
ground. Two Gondorians move to flank the elves, while the rest distract
the main groups.
A huge melee, and a knight also tries to flank.
A small fight over here, and the two flankers are getting away.
Duinhur and the knight fight well together blocking the elf's attacks
and thrusting deep into his chest, Duinhur claims the kill.
One clansman falls to elven prowess.
The melee continues, but the elf archers have joined this time
one elf blocks a knight. flanking.
More small fighting over here, and one knight manages to break the
elven lines
Duinhur manages another kill, as do two clansmen
which breaks the Elven force
One elf flees, the remainder try to move to evade,
as one death spells the battle end
And Duinhur does such
Giving The Fiefdoms a major victory! (20-4)

Fiefdoms = 10pts(winning scenario) + 3pts(killing leader) +5pts(breaking enemy)                                              +2pts(number of models successfully infiltrating) = 20
Rivendell  = 4pts(losing scenario) = 4

The fiefdoms took a massive victory over the elves there, once the Elven captain fell there was not much hope for the elves. The Gondorians used their numbers well, the elves could not find a gap in the Gondor lines, so were reduced quickly by the number of attacks.

Next time shall be the third place battle between Rivendell and Moria in Reconnoitre.

Face-off 2013 semi-finals Moria Vs Isengard Raiders

Well this has taken a while, apologies for the wait, and that this isn't Fiefdoms Vs Rivendell, which shall be up after this one.

The raiders have in advantage in fire-power however will not be able to use it due to the scenario special rules. Although they also have superior numbers and warrior quality, their lack of courage could prove fatal this time, as they will have to take courage tests to charge the troll. Which is the goblins advantage, this scenario allows them to be able to use the troll's killing potential, but if they break too soon, it could disappear just as easily.

Moria Vs Isengard Raiders (Ill Met by Moonlight)

Deployment:

Both sides move so they can use their bows
The goblins fortify the way through, and the scouts try to corner the troll
The goblin captain launches himself over the wall to help his minion archers,
Two uruks manage to charge the troll
Lurtz punches a hole in the goblin defence,
The goblin captain also manages to down an uruk(-2might),
elsewhere another uruk falls
Another two uruks manage to charge the troll, Lurtz faces the blockade
alone, and the other goblins face-off individually
Lurtz crushes another goblin with shield(-1might), and both goblin archers fall
The troll simply swipes his opponents aside
furious that the goblins are now broken
The captain rallies his remaining three followers
and they charge into the one-sided frays
Lurtz and the captain both manage a single kill each
But the troll tramples over the three surrounding uruks
breaking the Isengard force
The two remaining goblins flee for their lives!
The troll remains, giving the goblins hope of victory yet
Lurtz rallies his last two uruks while the troll flees!
Giving the Uruk-hai a victory!(15-9)

Isengard Raiders = 10pts(winning scenario) + 5pts(breaking enemy) = 15

Moria = 4pts(losing scenario) + 5pts(breaking enemy) = 9

A close battle indeed. The uruks were flawed when attacking the troll with their low courage values, however they made up for it by breaking the goblins quickly, on the other side.

Moria will face the loser of the next battle for third place in Reconnoitre, and Isengard Raiders will face the winners at the final in Clash of Piquets.

The next battle is The Fiefdoms Vs Rivendell in Reconnoitre.

Face-off 2013 1st round the Easterlings Vs Isengard raiders

Well, happy new year followers!

The Isengard Raiders replace the previous winners, The Serpent Horde, and face the Easterlings. One of the three sides with decent armour for their warriors and heroes, yet this will probably be negated due to the high strength of the Uruk-hai.

Because of the size of the board, the sides will be placed in two adjacent corners and have the artefact at the opposing end. The artefact will have to be carried off a different board edge fora victory to be achieved.

The Easterlings Vs Isengard Raiders (Seize the prize)

Deployment:

The archers of both sides face-off, to little effect
More shooting, but nothing gives. As the sides approach each other,
the next priority roll may decide who gets the dig first
The captain gets lucky and orders his men to form a wall,
blocking the path to the digging site
Lurtz orders the half men into the wall, knowing they have the advantage
Lurtz and co. charge the wall,
an Uruk vaults the hedge but is surrounded by easterners,
and the captain is halted in his digging process
Lurtz carves his shield and sword into the easterners,
while the vault Uruk is also killed
Another Easterling becomes man-flesh
The captain seizes the moment and digs hurriedly for the artefact
as his men's lives are at stake
The Raiders appear to be on top over here
A bowman is cut down
The Easterlings are slaughtered after their foolish challenges,
leaving the Easterlings Broken
The only bright side is that the artefact is found!
The captain manages to summon his courage(-1will)
and rally three of his men, the other man flees
His men stall the uruks while their captain tries to salvage a small victory
Lurtz wins the heroic move roll off, while they cannot attack the captain,
he attacks a single uruk

The other Uruks mop up the Easterlings
Two of the three succumb to their blades
Lurtz and co. waste no time in surrounding the two remaining Easterlings
And they are butchered
Giving the Uruk-hai a major victory! (18-4)

The Easterlings were totally outfought, the higher fight value meant that the Easterlings had to move around the Uruk-hai to gain any advantage, yet since they had the same move rate, also their advantage in archer defence was not utilised either, and their captain couldn't compete against normal warriors.
Overall a total loss for the servants of Sauron.

The next battle is the start of the semi-finals, the Fiefdoms face-off the Elves of Rivendell in Reconnoitre.

Until then
